diane arbus diane arbus's books

When Diane Arbus died in 1971 at the age of forty-eight, she was already a significant influence - even something of a legend - among serious photographers, although only a relatively small number of her most important pictures were widely known at the time.

A movie on her life, based upon the biography by Patricia Bosworth, will be realesed in the fall of 2006 in the US.

Set in New York in the late 1950's, FUR conjures an image of visionary artist Diane Arbus by intertwining a fictional romance with aspects of Arbus' life in order to explore the mysterious artistic development of a woman who is now regarded as one of the most influential photographers of all time. Co-financing and serving as producers are Bill Pohlad and Laura Bickford for River Road Entertainment. Executive Producers are Ed Pressman and Alessandro Camon. Additionally, Bonnie Timmerman and Andrew Fierberg are producers. Patricia Bosworth and Vincent Farrell serve as co-producers. Shooting commenced May 9th in New York. International sales will be handled by New Line International.

Diane Arbus was born in New York City in March of 1923. She was born Diane Nemerox, to a wealthy family in New York City. Arbus is remembered today for her photographs depicting outsiders, such as tranvestites, dwarves, giants, prostitutes, and ordinary citizens in poses and settings conveying a disturbing uncanniness.
