| Michele Lombardelli | The Triumphant ID | |
| Michele Lombardelli explores the dark side of human nature in his first solo show in India. He deals with the mind of the serial killer and delves into the shadows that lurk in the deranged minds that have no regard for life or social norms. The title The Triumphant ID refers to Freud’s ground breaking theory which had theorized that there are three forces at work in the human mind the ID which is the almost animal like part of human nature that only follows its instincts with its selfish desires reigning supreme. The Super Ego is that part of the subconscious where we imbibe all the expectations that society has of us and dictates behaviour suitable of a model citizen. According to Freud the ID and Superego are constantly at war and it is the Ego which creates a balance between the two. When the Super Ego and the Ego are defeated, the human mind goes back to its primeval instincts where even murder is acceptable, the ID emerges the victor, triumphant. Michele Lombardelli says of his works, which he creates by using oil on Japanese paper that sign and design converge in a few extremely dense centimeters of space expanding across the entire page. This reduction to minimum visibility is a constant; for the rest he prefers subjects and objects of little externality, that is, things “strictly personal,” latent, vague, dangerous, full of shadow and light. In this case they are faces, lines upon lines drawn over each other again and again, with doggedness and acidity, even with a certain autoerotic pleasure, with a slight nod to somber European expressionismdecadent, dry, veiled and violent. “My drawing is an emotional, reflexive drawing, sometimes in little, very little space.” Kamalnayan Bajaj Art Gallery Bajaj Bhuvan, Nariman Point Mumbai 400 021 In the near future, bCA plans to widen our field of focus of promoting Indian artists to include other European countries, the USA and China.
