Bikinis
(or "Two Easy Pieces")

First there was the beach
Then there was the bath;
Then came the bikini
together with the bomb.
When it comes to the arts
I don't really who did it first.
Many things happened before you were born
in places that you will never be invited to.

As you move from the bottom to the top
you move from shame to blame,
you can
and think it comes from the U.S.A.
you can wear a bikini as a teenager
and think you're fashionably French
you can paint bikini girls as a painter
called M.D., across the seas.

But then one day you see
the Italian underwear of 3 A.D.,
and you know,
time walks on the waters.

Europe: Different Perspectives in Painting

by Gianni Romano
Paperback - G. Politi Editore
July 2000 - 272 pages
ISBN 8878161187 - 10 X 7 inches

Text in English and Italian

Europe — Different Perspectives in Painting presents a broad, complex and articulated overview of all aspects of the old continent’s new figurative painting, with a few crossovers involving video art, computer art, installations and sculpture also being taken into consideration.

Europe — Different Perspectives in Painting Is thus an indispensable resource, the first book devoted to the new protagonists of European figurative painting, an invaluable record of the various interpretations to which the very concept of painting has been and is currently being subjected. A broad, varied, dialectic overview, open to crossovers and external influences, a reflection of the new painting but also the new Europe, an expression of new cultural, ethnic and social concepts.
